Frequently asked questions

General Questions

If you are not satisfied with your business cards due to flaws, bad workmanship, or any other problem with the printing process, your business card products will be re-printed at no additional charge.

Of course, we cannot be held responsible in the event of human errors such as spelling, misalignments, or inaccurate information printed on your products. We ask that you double check your designs for these common errors before ordering.

Please note that we require all the colors in your files to be of the CMYK variety, as spot / pantone colors could produce unexpected results.  Additionally, certain colors may appear slightly different in print compared to on-screen, and the same color may not come out 100% the same every time it is printed.  These are industry-accepted standards and therefore any color issues will be handled on a case-by-case basis.

Please view our Terms and Conditions of Sale.

Visa, MasterCard, American Express, and Discover credit cards as well as debit cards are accepted. No checks, cashier’s checks, or money orders are accepted. All orders must be paid in full before production can begin.  For non-standard orders, email us for an estimate, and we will respond with an estimate and provide an online payment link if you accept the estimate.

Please note that turnaround times are different for each print product. Turnaround times range from 2 – 14 business days from start of production plus shipping time. Shipping times vary on your location. Most print jobs ship from the West Coast.

Most business cards will take 4 – 8 business days to print. Orders with dies for foiling, embossing, debossing, and letterpress take 9-12 business days. Business days are Monday through Friday and do not include holidays. Each product page has the average estimated turnaround time listed.

We do NOT normally guarantee turnarounds or delivery times and estimates should only be used as a guideline. Production may finish early or late by 1 – 3 days.

Our holidays are New Year’s Day, Memorial Day, Independence Day, Labor Day, Thanksgiving, the Friday after Thanksgiving, and Christmas. Turnaround time is only for production. Shipping is not included in these times.  If you are asking for rush shipping, that does not apply to the production times. Only a select set of our products will have a rush production option.

We guarantee all orders to be free of defects in workmanship. If any order does not match the generally accepted trade standards, we will reprint the order at no additional charge.  Refund requests will be handled on a case-by-case basis and must be made in writing, via email, within 3 business days after delivery. NexCards.com, at its discretion, may require any customer making a refund request to return the order to NexCards.com.

NexCards.com is not responsible for return shipping costs. If no such claim is made within the 3 business day period, NexCards.com and the client understand that the job has been accepted. By accepting the job, the client acknowledges that NexCards.com’s performance has fully satisfied all terms, conditions and specifications.

Printing

Toner is used with digital printing, which lays flat on your paper of choice. All other printing methods require the use of a die or plate.

Letterpress is printed with ink and is done with a polymer die. The colors are softened and a little mottled if the printing field is large. Letterpress presses into the page.

Foiling is created by stamping a metallic or pigmented foil into the page using a metal die. The colors are crisp and it is the only one of our printing techniques that offers a shiny metallic finish. Foiling presses into the page but not as deeply as letterpress.

Blind debossing and embossing create an impression without ink. Blind debossing stamps the impression into the cardstock. Blind embossing works in reverse, it extrudes the image from the cardstock.

Thermography combines offset ink with a powdered resin which is baked. This has the effect of raising the text off the page. The result is the shiny ink that can be felt when a hand is run across the cardstock.

Yes, we can combine any of our print processes with Letterpressing/Foiling/Blind Embossing or Debossing.

Yes, we want it to match as much as you do. However, some ink colors and printing processes are easier to match than others. If consistent color is very important to you, then you should seriously consider using the same printing method across all components of your order.

Most of our business card products are printed and cut by the highest quality Heidelberg printing presses using a ” 4 color” aka “CMYK” printing process with full bleed. The four color process is an industry standard whose results can be seen at any news or magazine stand. During this procedure, small dots of Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black are printed on the paper in a precise fashion forming a full spectrum of colors. The end result is high quality, photo realistic printing at an affordable price. We also print in spot color (e.g., if you specify a particular Pantone color) or using digital presses when needed.

NexCards.com utilizes high quality Heidelberg CMYK printing presses. CMYK is an industry standard printing process that refers to the printing inks used in 4-color process printing:

“C” = Cyan

“M” = Magenta

“Y” = Yellow

“K” = Black

These are the only four colors used to produce full-color photographs and designs. These colors can be combined in various percentages to emulate a wide number of other colors. If you look carefully at a printed color photograph in any magazine or book, you’ll see that it’s made up of rows of tiny dots of each of the four colors called a halftone screen. The dots work together, at different angles, to fool your eye into seeing a full spectrum of colors.

The mixture of ideal CMYK colors is subtractive (cyan, magenta, and yellow printed together on white result in black). CMYK works through light absorption. The colors that are seen are from the part of light that is not absorbed. In CMYK, magenta plus yellow produces red, magenta plus cyan makes blue and cyan plus yellow generates green.

For a graphics file to be printed correctly in a CMYK printing environment, it must be created and printed in that color mode. That is why we require all colors in customer files to be CMYK (i.e., no spot or pantone colors). Pantone colors may not print as expected in a CMYK printing environment.

Customers uploading their own design files are responsible for ensuring that all colors in their files are CMYK, as we are often not able to determine the specific color-mode on our end. We cannot be held responsible for color shifts resulting from the inclusion of pantone colors in customer files.

Full bleed is printing from edge to edge. All our business cards are printed in full bleed. Full bleed ensures that ink covers the entire area of the final product. In this process the image is printed larger than normal. After printing is complete, the excess area is trimmed away. This area is about 1/16th of an inch from the edges.

Spot UV is just an exact spot where you would like your printed piece to have an area of Ultra-Violet Coating. Creating a piece with Spot UV will enhance your marketing piece immensely. In order to print your cards correctly, we require a mask file which graphically displays where the SPOT UV will be. If you are unable to create the mask file, we can do it for you for a small fee. This add-on option is available in any product with Spot UV.

We currently accept JPG/JPEG, PDF, PSD, and Illustrator files.

All foiling and embossing is done “blind,” meaning after the cut, so it may shift up to an 1/8th of an inch. Please compensate for this on your artwork and keep art simple. Do not align artwork against or under the embossing or foiling due to this shift. Avoid using thin fonts and thin lines. Certain point sizes may not register (recommended minimum 10pts or above depending on the font).

We suggest you limit your extra enhancements to one or two per item. Keep the two well-separated and on one side of the card. If you have any questions at all,  please do not hesitate to contact us for technical support.

When you order business cards with Spot UV, Foil Stamping, or Embossing, we need your help in determining where on your card to place these treatments. To do this, you’ll need to send us 1 or 2 additional files via the “Design File Extra” field on the upload form. These are called “mask” files.

For spot UV, in most cases you’ll only need to create and send us 1 additional (i.e., mask) file.  The only time we require 2 mask files for spot UV is if you ordered our Luxury Business Cards and opted to place the spot UV treatment on both sides. In this case, we will need 1 mask file for the front, and 1 for the back.

Your mask files(s) should be in black & white only, with the black areas in 100% black (K) representing where you’d like the enhancement to be placed, almost like a template over your artwork. Anywhere white will not be foiled, embossed, or treated with spot UV. For example, if you’d like your logo to have spot UV, your mask file will consist of a white background with your logo on it, in black, in the same location the logo appears on your actual artwork file.
